While not meant to battle Pirates, the Atomos Ninja is a 10bit Uncompressed HDMI to Apple ProRes Field Recorder, Monitor and Playback Device. It features a 4.3-inch 480×270 touch screen with a very well designed user interface to control the device and label clips. It records your choice of Pro-Res flavors; HQ, 422, and LT to user supplied removable 2.5″ drives. The unit ships with two empty hard drive caddies that you can fill with your choice of spinning or solid state drives. The unit features two battery mounts allowing the ability to change batteries while rolling for continuous recording. The unit features 1/4″ threads top and bottom for mounting. Included in the kit is a bus-powered docking station featuring both FireWire 800 and USB 3.0 connections. The complete kit including the Ninja, two batteries, charger, two empty hard drive caddies, docking station, cables and case is on sale now for $995.
